The Revolutionary Workers’ Party of India (RWPI) unequivocally condemns the killings of CPI(Maoist) General Secretary N. Kesava Rao, also known as Basava Raju, other Maoists and common Adivasis in Chhattisgarh by the central and state government armed forces in what Modi-Shah government has characterized as “anti-insurgency operations”.
The Operation Kagar, launched by the Modi-Shah regime in the name of fighting “Maoists” is in reality an operation to prepare the way for the exploitation and plunder of the mineral-rich regions of central India by the Indian as well foreign capital. The latest encounters and extra judicial killings of Maoists and common Adivasis are in the furtherance of these pro-capital and anti-people ends and designs of the fascist Modi Government.
These encounters have occurred in the backdrop of the calls for peace talks initiated by the CPI (Maoist) itself. The peace appeal was issued by CPI (Maoist) on February 8. Despite the appeal by several political parties, journalists, lawyers, Gandhian activists, the Modi Government continued its operation of physically eliminating the members of the CPI (Maoist) and common Adivasi masses. According to international law and norms too, any government founded on democratic basis should have accepted this proposal to end the cycle of violence and repression. However, the continuation of Operation Kagar shows that the intentions of the Modi government were not to have peace in the region by democratic means, but to cleanse the whole area of any political opponents, by physically eliminating them, in the interests of the big bourgeoisie in particular and capital in general.
The terrorist methods of CPI (Maoist) and its political line of adventurism cannot be agreed upon by any revolutionary force having faith in the masses. At the same time, it must also be reiterated that all such streams of adventurism stem from and flourish as a reaction to the violence, terror, oppression and repression unleashed by the state itself. The real intentions of the Modi government by continuing with its acts of indiscriminate violence as well as state repression in Chhattisgarh against common Adivasis and Maoists and by not engaging in peace talks with the Maoists has been laid bare repeatedly in these past few months and so has been its commitment to serve the interests of the corporate capital.
Revolutionary Workers’ Party of India (RWPI) demands a high level judicial inquiry into these killings, an immediate end to operation Kagar and other so-called counter-insurgency operations, beginning of a dialogue and holding of peace talks with CPI (Maoist) by the government and immediate repeal of exceptional laws imposed in Chhattisgarh.
